Nikon has released info about its new digital SLR camera D60. It’s quite obvious that the new D60 is based on D40/D40x model. The list of improvements is remarkably short, comparing to D40x. But lets take a look does new Nikon D60 have what it takes to shakeup Canons leaders position in production of entry level DLSR cameras.Key improvements of D60 comparing to D40x camera:

  • Image sensor cleaning system in combination wit airflow control system, new sensor dust off system
  • Sensor for shutdown LCD when you look throe viewfinder
  • new Stop motion movie options
  • Orientation sensor, auto rotating info screen on the LCD
  • New optically stabilized kit lens – AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR

And that is all!, obviously this is new version of the D40X camera but Nikon wants to distinct it more from the D40 mark, cause bad reputation that D40 had.

The biggest and the most valuable upgrade is new kit lens NIKKOR 18-55mm VR, now it feautres optical stabilization.

Dust prevention is a nice feature, but dust can penetrate camera while you are interchanging lenses, and the real question is often do owners of the Nikon’s cheapest DSLR changes lenses, knowing that usually they are owning only one lens.

I have to admit that, I was expecting more from Nikon, this is just an upgrade for D40x. The good news is the announced price for D60 with 18-55mm VR, in Europe this kit will cost about $750.
